adding files to windows xp cd

ok, i finally got everything figured out on how to burn my own windows xp cd and make it bootable.
only problem, whenever i add any files to the cd that are not originally on the xp cd, the cd will no longer boot
do i have to add them in any certain way or make some certain folder to put my extra stuff in
see, i'm wanting to add like my spyware programs and stuff on there so that when i reinstall again, i will have everything on 1 cd
i know it will all fit because it only add's up to like 634 MB

so, what am i doing wrong?

Hi Spazz. Okay, so I'm guessing you have a bootable XP CD that works. Now you decide you want to add some more stuff to it. If you simply copy the contents of your existing bootable CD to a new compilation, then add some more stuff and write all that to a new CD, it won't boot because the boot image is missing. It's not because the new files are preventing it from booting.

The boot image is 'invisible' in Windows Explorer so it can only be copied if you perform a CD-to-CD copy of a bootable CD. Since you wish to add some more files that method is no good to you. What you need to do instead is to get all your files together that you want to have on the new CD (including the XP setup files) then tell your burning program to make this new CD bootable just like the first one you've already made, at which point you will need to tell it where the boot image is (just like you did for your first bootable XP CD).

LoL - sorry for dodging the problem.

Convert the CD to an ISO file, retaining the boot sector. Then edit the ISO file with winISO and add the junk that you need. Then I think you can burn it and still boot with it...
