Out Of These Four Dual Cores, Which One Is Better

 I'm buying an desktop computer from HP. They offer computers with these types of dual core processors.

1. Intel Pentium D Processor 805 (2.66 GHz)
2. Intel Viiv Technology with an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6300 (1.84 GHz)
3. AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 4200+, AMD Live (2.2 GHz)
4. AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 4600+, AMD Live (2.2 GHz)

(Before Answering Questions, I Can't Overclock It. That Isn't A Posibility)

Now, what I know from processors are that one should have a high GHz so I would think, out of the four, the Pentium D would be the logical choice. But alot of people are saying to buy the Core 2 models, and I have no clue why. I'm an advid gamer and I wish to play games like Half Life 2, Battlefield 2, etc. and they demand alot of GHz. So I thought that model of Core 2 would not be a good choice. Now alot of people are saying to buy AMD's aswell but I don't know which AMD's are better and how much better they are from Intel.

All in all could you rate the four, from best to worst, and which CPU I should get. (Please Could You Give Me A Reason Why You Made Your Choice.)

I would like to thank you in advance for reading this. And I can't wait for your responce. I'll try to stay on all night.

intel has better upper-range processors, but amd has well-priced, low level procesors... since your not looking at an e6800, or an X2 5000, the amd is the better way to go. (plus in my book, amd motherboards are more solid than some intel mobo's)

I would go with the AMD. You definitely won't be overclocking, and I think that the AMD will just do better for you.

Ghz doesn't mean as much now, as 2.1 Ghz Core 2 Duos are beating 3.8Ghz Pentium Ds in performance.

My recommendation would be the E6300 over the X2 4600+, solely because they are known to run very cool. Performance wise, they are about the same.

Well here are the links to the two computers that use the Core 2 e6300 and the AMD X2 4600+ processors

The Core 2 computer is one hundred dollars more. The only differnces between the two are the processors and the graphics cards. I don't beleve it is the graphics cards that are causing the great difference in cash (Because the more expencive computer comes with a no name graphics card.)

Which out of the two would you buy. Or, could you recomend a better desktop computer around $1000 - $1200 Cnd. (or like $900 - $1100 US.)

Well the AMD has a better graphics card, and is $100 cheaper, I would go with it.

both those grfx cards sux so much ass u wouldnt notice a difference in game play....if ur tight on money, go with the amd option, but the c2d is just amazing.

Guys thanks for all the replies. Sounds like from a proccessor perspective they are fairly equal.

How important is cache? The AMD goes faster than the Core 2 but it has half the L2 cache of the Core 2 model. Is it worth going a little faster (0.4 GHz faster) on the AMD and loosing 1mb of L2 cache?

And BTW I going to be swapping the graphics card out for a better one so don't worry about the graphics.
