Laptop Measurments

Hello,

Does anyone have any idea where i can get hold of measurments for laptops. Like for example there dimensions m distance between mouse pad and keyboard etc... and all those sort of measurments. I need this for some research into laptops that i am doing.

I was thinking someone that maybe supplies laptops and retails them for example and i could pay for the measurments? ?

If anyone has any ideas then please let me know !

The simplest way I can see would be to go down to your local electrical retailer with a tape measure, notepad and pen, and measure a display model. Either that or find a friend who has one to let you loose on it.

The precise measurements vary depending on a lot of things, mainly design and screen size, what are you looking to measure it for? Some CAD design or something? I guess you could pay for the measurements, but I don't think that should be nessecary.
 
i know dell used to have advertisments comparing the thickness of various notebooks they sold but as for the keyboard ect, i have no idea
 
Its just research into the designs of laptops to get a idea of how many different sizes there are etc. and any patterns in design for my friends whos looking into a new range of cases for laptops, he hasent told me anything about it but needs to know sizes !. The problem is they are always bringing out new ones and is difficult to keep up lol .

I dont think walking around a computer shop taking measurmnets of every computer would be good , someone might ask some questions lol ! I dnt suppose there is another way ?

Yes I agree they would see that as odd. :) I guess it boils down to emailing the manufacturers. They would probably have very detailed schematics of measurements they could give you for their models. Whether they'd charge you for the priviledge I don't know, but if it's just for a range of cases, is the keyboard and touchpad placement really that important? I would have thought all that's needed is the closed box-dimensions?
 
yeh that probably would be the only alternative , im only doing the research for him ( well trying to :P) dnt know the designs of the case and why the measurments need to be so precise :S . Anyway how often does a manufacturer like toshiba or sony bring out a new laptop ? Im guessing they bring out a new range likeonce a month ?
 
if anyone owns or works in a laptop retailing company for example and can get there hands on most of the laptops out there , then please let me know !i do not mind paying for these mesurements :D
