I want to start playing Myst (looks great!) but I've read that the entire series is a continuing story. If I were to skip the first couple of games would I have no clue what was going on? Or would you just recommend that I just play the first ones...first. :D

Well i've got Myst & Riven(the sequal) and havent finished either of them... mainly cos i just got bored with them, but don't get me wrong they are very interesting games with some great graphics(stills) however you can some times get very frustrated when you cant find how to solve one of th puzzels :P

EDIT: If i remember right, at the start of each game it brifly tells you what happened in the previous and why you are here/there. There isnt anything in them that requires you to have played the previous versions.... other than the fact that you will be more in-tune with how to solve the types of puzzels from your past experience.

Yes, there is Myst, Riven, Exile, and I forget what 4 and 5's names are, but there are 5 in total. And if I understand correctly, that is all that they are planning to make at this point... They do make a brief reference to the previous games at the beginning, but it's just that, brief. I would recommend going through them in order if you have them...

I've played all the Myst games, they are all very good! Haha, I'll have to admit that I've only beaten two of them though. There are actually 6 Myst games, Myst I, Myst II - Riven, Myst III - Exile, Myst: Uru (doesn't follow the Myst sequences), Myst IV - Revolution, and Myst V - End of Ages. I believe that is all they are planning to do, since Myst V wraps everything up. I highly recommened the series, I've been playing them since I was a little kid. The only thing, is they're very hard!

They sell a 10th anniversary set of the first 3, Myst, Riven and Exile for ~30..

They haven't by chance updated them at all have they? because I know the earlier ones when you change the resolution the viewable screen actually becomes much smaller with a thick black border all the way around. This is what stopped me from playing them on the PC. Back then I had a CRT for a monitor and a 9600pro video card. Not tried since with my latest setup although I don't see why it would be any different.

Anyway just curious.

I believe that the games have been updated to some degree, but as to the specifics, I'd look at the update page on the home page of the game and see if they mention anything about that...
