resolving issues

posted in here awhile ago about some problems i was having with my other comp. the hard drive went awhile back and i replaced it. i just bought a new hardrive and connected it. went to install windows and about 10 minutes in, it froze, so i restarted. when the computer rebooted, right before it would load from the cdrom, the screen went blank and a blinking cursor appeared in the upper left hand corner, and thats how it stays. i think the motherboard might be beat as well. any ideas? i could def use some help. if i need a new mobo i rather go get it now then screw with this one any longer.

in addition, if i need a new mobo as well, does that mean i also need a new cpu? not entirely sure what a new mobo would entail. any and all help is more then welcome.
thanks,
AJ

When initially booting from the installation disk did you simply press the F8 key to enter into a boot menu there or did you change the boot order in the system bios itself to have the cd rom as the first device? If you only pressed the F8 option leaving the hard drive as the default boot device the system simply stalled upon the restart there.

That's some great news there! ;) At least you found us before getting poor advice from somewhere else.  If you have questions you now know where to ask them. :D

What did cleaning the poo out of it have to do with changing the boot order? Sounds like you got completely irrelevant advice to what the problem actually was, or you are not stating what the actual problem was. Actually, you probably didn't need to change the boot order or you wouldn't have even gotten to any sort of installation, and it certainly sounds like you didn't change it... In fact that in itself was bad advice and completely unrelated to the problem.

Anyways, you shouldn't be pooing in it to begin with. That's what the litterbox is for. :P

took credit for a resolved issue?

Who's taking credit? "us" is who. I seemed to have cleaned up after someone else("your" mess somehow?).
