okay, so i guess my dream comp aint coming for a while so i guess ill make a budget one.
i have a budget of around $1000 give or take an extra $300 for monitor, mouse and keyboards and other stuff like that.
it is in canadian currency as well

so i guess i wanted to start of with
AMD Althlon 64 3200+
Good cheap mobo
250 gb hd
cheap good PSU
DVD burner
1 gig of ram
and a good cheap case

for a graphics card im not sure but i want it to play mid intensity games like CS:S and WoW
maybe bf2 later on

Hey man, really you don't wanna be spending a grand on the really, since your in canada, pick up a prebuilt if you need a comp just for now, or do what i did, go to ebay and by the parts there from a store with a good rating, you'll save alot, if you can build up the 1000.00 and then build your baby

I disagree very firmly with damientbayless, it will be MUCH cheaper if you build yourself, rather then buying a pre-built computer.

Also, if I were you, I would get an Intel Core 2 Duo...they currently beat the A64. But if you're future-proofing, and want to make sure you can upgrade to the latest and greatest (i.e. quad-core), I would prob get an AM2 board...

well the thing is i dont need a computer which can last for a long time
just maybe around 4 years till i get a laptop for university and stuff
and it doesnt have to be made for hardcore gaming cause i dont do any
i just need a budget compy to replace the sh*tty one i have

You say your budgets $1000, you can get a really decent rig for that if you shop right.

Conroe E6400 - $220
1 GB Corsair PC 6400 Ram - $155
7950 GT 512 MB $300
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Motherboard - $140
320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive - $100
Good Powersupply - $75
Case - $40
CD/DVD Drive - $30

Total - $1060

But if your not an avid gamer, you could downgrade alot of that stuff. Esp, the video card.

Well, if you're looking to just buy a cheap computer, AMD is currently the cheapest. If you're looking for good performance (multi-tasking, etc) at a decent price, get a Core 2 Duo.

Nothing will last for 4 years, especially a budget PC.

heh, u sure about that?
this computer has been running for about 4 years now
and it can still play some of the not so new games but little older ones
and it still runs fine i just wanted some more power to play just a few of the newer ones and run programs a bit faster
(this comp is the sh*tty one in my sig)
