AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+
Pentium® D Processor 805 with Dual Core Technology

I know, I'm a noob, sorry.

Thanks for the help

Core 2 duo > athlon 64 X2 > Pentium D
the gap between athlon 64 X2 and Pentium D being about twice as large as the one between Core 2 duo and Athlon 64 X2.

meaning core 2 duo @ 2ghz performs close to athlon 64 X2 at 2.5ghz performs close to pentium D at 4ghz

of course, this is flexible... they all have strengths and weaknesses.. like athlon 64 X2's hypertransport gives it MUCH higher ability when it comes to memory bandwidth.

The reason I'm asking is becuase my work gave me a $1100 credit to Dell to buy a new home computer, I had to buy a 20" screen and at least 250GB hard drive, becuase I need to run Pro/E on it every once in a while, but I would also like to play some games like BF2 and maybe Company of Heroes

I'd probably get an XPS 410 from Dell...with the Core 2 Duo, of course. :D

EDIT: Actually, I'd probably get the best computer I could with the credit, then sell it on eBay, and use the money to build a better computer! :P

I've never had a problem with their computers, its what we use at work, I've had one other PC and I have a nice E1505 laptop from them, no problems.

I feel sorry for you JP. Your fastest graphics core is a 5200. :(

I think that a single C2D/7600GT/1GB system may have more total processing power then your computers combined, or achieve more framerates combined.

Still, I wish I had that many. On the issue of Dell (which is off topic), they serve their purpose. For those that just want t heir computer to turn on, work, and when something is wrong have a number to call and replace something - Dell is great. For an enthusiast, nnnoooo....

We are not necessarily saying they are bad but rather expensive and uh.. cheap.:P When you build your own you get better equipment for price.
