Thinking of taking apart my xbox... (Need advice)

My xbox has currently started to stop reading the majority of game discs, (Takes about 15-30 minutes of ejecting/injecting the disc to get it to work), and now I am thinking of taking apart the xbox to clean out all the dirt in there, clean the lens, etc. Anyone got any advice for how to go about doing this, what kind of screwdriver is necessary, and is the risk of destroying the xbox too great?

If needed, I know that there are a few mod sites that sell replacement DVD drives that the XBOX uses, and SIMPLE to install. Or, if all else fails, check ebay, and I'm sure you can find one. It'll help help with your play experience.

yeah, a new drive can be a better option, as the cleaning procedure does not always work that well. But give it a go first

Alright, well, I cleaned out the half a pound of dust in the X-box, (Had to take it apart twice, first time I did it I forgot to reconnect the power supply to the DVD-ROM) but the error still shows up. Is it possible to make a typical DVD-ROM/CD-Burner go into the X-box, and make it work properly?

JUST the samsung SD-616T, or any DVD-rom drive?

EDIT: is it possible to take out the top of the X-Box DVD drive, and then get a better look at the lens? I would have checked myself, but I forgot, lol.
