HD Help

Hey guys, Got a WD 250gb, But i recently salvaged another HD.
Its Got a IDE connection, As my WD has a SATA. Ive serched the fourms, it tells me that it should run no problem. I connect my Second HD .and boot up. It tells me its under Primary IDE master
Now Windows boots up from the Sata But takes like..5 minutes to do so, so i just turned off my pc, not worth the wait.
But my question is, i now i have to set it to SLAVE, the option under master, but i do not now how.

Any help?

EDIT : The new HD is being reconized, and my Master HD is being shown to boot into windows.

It should just be in BIOS, on a jumper on the drive, etc. But BIOS should just boot from your SATA anyways, you dont need to set the drive to Slave, it is already under the SATA in priority.

You have to set the priority from the ide to Serial ATA in the bios otherwise the ide controller overrides the SATA. SATA drives have no jumpers to begin with. There's a primary #1 + #2 and Secondary #1 + #2 on most boards.

Correct, just set it to the IDE slave, but that shouldnt make a difference, you need to set your boot device priority instead.

ok, so i manged to get the 2nd HD set as slave, booted into windows, Works fine.
But not windows is not regonizing it
Not even under Hardware and device manager
Any ideas?

Now it doesn't show up in Bios since i rebooted.

im heading to bed, ill see if i can fix it after school tommrow

Usually you will find the boot device priority as either ide or Sata when pressing the enter key on a device chosen as the first. A popup menu will come where you simply select the type of device. If that M2N-E in your sig is the Asus board seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131022 you should readily see the option for Sata since that model only has one ide controller.

You have to partition it and format

Does the new second drive have old windows on it? or is it brand new?

Yes it is already formatted.but i think it has windows ME on it
make any difference?

Not if you planning to install XP on it. You can even choose to delete the current partition in order to start off fresh with a new one that the XP installer can create. An NTFS partition will be the better move anyways.
