:P Hi, im new to the forum ^^ So hello everyone!

My usb works on my other computer, but doesnt not work on mine.
I use this one most often as it has the internet;
and the other doesnt (and its my sisters') :o

But today, when the USB was plugged in, it didnt show up
on my computer and it doesnt work  Its just
the computer i think, so how do i fix it?

Ive tried plugging it at the back, and i cant open my computer or anything.
Because in not trained to do that sorta stuff and know nothing about computers ==' Any help would be GREAT! =] THANKS!!

The fast method is to right click on the MyComputer desktop icon. That will bring up a small screen with several tabs. You then click on the hardware tab to open that section. The hardware button is the next thing to bring you into the "device manager" where you scroll down to the last section on the bottom. That's where to look for any items with a yellow mark next to them.

If you find anything there with a yellow mark you simply right click on that and choose the update driver option. You will probably need the Windows cd or cd that came with the system board since that will have the drivers of usb on it. You can try the automatic search option to see if Windows will reinstall them for you. But if it that doesn't work you may have to reinstall the drivers by using the installer on the board's own cd.

Okay ill try that; but if it doesnt work what do i have to install.
And what board? Sorry i know nothing about comps.

Shawty, What pceye negleted to answer is if you have any yellow question marks and they do not say unknown device most of the time windows will find the right drivers if you let it search the internet. If not let us know which ones have yellow ? next to them and we can help you find the correct drivers.

When you scroll down to the last section in the device manager there are no "unknown" device listings there. That is the usb section. Windows doesn't search the internet but the driver base stored on in hidden recovery files on the drive. Those are created during the original installation of Windows. XP comes with usb 2.0 drivers included. However the mother board itself has it's own.

Was this a store bought complete system or one that was custon built? The board is the main circuit board that everything connects to and had the hardwares like the cpu(central processing unit), memory, expansion cards installed in the slots at the rear of the case for video and sound card if not using onboard, and a dialup modem card if not using a network type NIK card or onboard Lan.

The system or main board will usually comes with a cd with the needed drivers on it. when loading the cd into the cd drive an installer is generally seen with options to to install the system drivers. When choosing the update driver option while in the device manager you will be given the options of having Windows perform an automatic search, to browse a floppy, cd, or other location, or to choose from a list of hardwares. Once the correct folder on the cd is found Windows will then copy and install the needed drivers.

Thanks everyone for your help! I sorta fiddled around with it.
Ive been getting this "unknown" usb device alot
(when my USB is not connected to the computer..)
so i decided to disable it, and my USB now works ^^

Hehe, miracle, wonder why. THANKS! :P

You could let Windows perform an automatic search for an update to see if that will see a replacement driver installed. At least you got it back running again regardless.
