Intel has the core 2. OK, but what is AMD going to do to beat it?

We all know that AMD and Intel are to 2 major makers of CPU's, but now that people are going with the Core 2 from Intel, AMD will need to make something to beat it or be right up there with it or they will lose sales over time. What will AMD pull out of the hat thins time to get back up there in the competition? It seams AMD's trademark is to have small GHz, but even smaller pipelines which made them better for a while, but that they have been beaten by their own game, what will they do to be considered competition? Core 2 are the most efficient CPU's in the world, (so says the commercial), but what does AMD have? And what do they have in store? Am I just rambling and repeating the same thing over and over again? maybe.......maybe....

Who knows what AMD will come up with, but they are most definetly developing something right now to get back into the competition. By the way... did you really win the lottery and how much?

yes, I won a year supply of nothing.......no, I didn't, just seamed funny at the time.....what do you think it will be like? do you think it will make all core 2 users feel dumb for not waiting, or say, Oh well I content.

yeah amd has already stated on many occasions that there developing a quad core processor....dont ya keep up with the news?

yes but isn't there a core 2 called something like the Q6600 or something ( I forget-to lazy to go to my last thread) that is Quad coming out and also that other core 2 that is a quad? I though AMD was trying to be a gaming kind of CPU, not server. I could be wrong, but hay, that's why we come here, to find out answers right?

AMD are working on their quad-core chips, which will be true a quad-core. It's expected for release around mid-2007.

Intels Quad is just going to be two dual cores togather, AMDs is a true 4 separate cores

So this is it, right?

To beat Intel's CONROE, AMD will resort to 4 cores. To counter this, Intel will resort to 8 cores. In response, AMD will come up with 16 cores, which in response Intel will make a 32 core CPU. To answer this, AMD's 64 core cpu will be out in no time.

I just think that having more and more cores will at some point stop improving the performance. I want to see a major improvement in the architecture of the CPU itself...

Right, now Amd's response to "conroe" is 4x4. 2 dual coroes on same mobo. When Amd goes to 4 cores, they will also, go to dual core with the same artichture has the 4 core. (Barcelona).

Im kinda sad that the future of cpu's is how many cores you can stick on a die

whatever happen to good old single core?!

:(

Yuep :D
Well, it won't get above 31 cores until vista becomes mainstream because XP can only support 31 cores :P

I am sure they will come out with a whole new arch soon from both AMD and Intel but as of now CPU's are fast enough for any one application, and if not that application would most likely be multi-threaded, so that is why AMD and Intel are just using their currect archs.

I think you will only see (and need) a 32 core or more on a super computer er something..................Say, I wonder if there will be a true dual core GPU!!!! The 9500 X2 GPU has dual GPU's, but not dual core!!!

9500 X2? what are you talking about? the GeForce 7950GX2, i hope?
