record streaming video?

greetings,
some sites have video's (ex. you tube) that you can click on that play only on the site and not with media player, etc. i would like to save a video to the hard drive but, there is no way i am aware to do this without software. so, that in mind, what freeware and "pay-ware" programs could you suggest that will record/capture what appears to be streaming(?) video...?........thanks!
