Go back into the bios and load the defaults and press the F10 key or choose the exit and save option when going to exit. You disabled the ide controller. It helps to review the manual that comes with the system as well for getting familiar with the bios setup program for that machine.

The bios loads before your operating system loads. When you turn on your computer, immediately start repeatedly hitting the delete key and it should bring up your bios. Once your back in the bios just do what PC eye said.

doesn't he have to clear the CMOS (removing the cap from the first two pins, replacing it onto the last two, hold for 10 seconds, and then placing it back onto the first two pins) along with removing the battery and reinstalling it?

But I wouldn't recommend doing this until all else fails. You should be able to reset your BIOS settings to default simply by pressing delete key and using common sense.

The option to load the default settings should be plainly seen once you are in the bios itself. You should review the manual first to see the information there. That will have a section usually in the last section before any reference section at the back. The process is easy enough if you simply pay attention and know just what you are changing. The upper bios screen usually tells which F key is used for loading the defaults like F6, F7, or F8.

If you still get stumped only then will you need to pull the battery first and may have to move the jumper from pins 1+2 to 2+3 and then back to 1+2. You would still have to refer to the manual to see which jumper is the correct one. On many newer boards you simply pop the battery out for several seconds and throw back in.
