after i installed new xp on my pc, for some reason i can not see the task bar to the laft when i open my computers.

here is a screen shot. the part that is in the red box does not show.

any idea how to get it to show?

That's because the default view is the XP style and not the classic Windows. When you open MyComputer or Windows Explorer simply go upto the menu bar and open the "tools" drop down menu and select folder options. Then select the "use classic Windows folders". See if this shows more. If you are seeing problems try typing "sfc /scannow" at the Run prompt and pressing the enter key. You may have had a partial installation of certain system files and the system file checker is one tool for repair or replacement.

It's definitely a piece of Windows Explorer that wasn't completely installed. One little dll file is all it takes.

That setting is a simple change from the newer XP look to the older Windows stye and appearance. That would be like looking at a Windows 98, ME, or 2000 desktop. You would open MyComputer or Windows Explorer and go to the top where the menu selections are. You would "files-edit-view-favorites-tools-help" seen on the explorer menu bar. The next to last on the right is for different settings.

Close, its the other option you want to select.

Tools > Options > General Tab > Show Common Tasks In Folder

One is above the other there. But that's the XP default setting now. But it's more then a setting change needed to correct this.

Before saying anything maybe we have to wait to see if he used the sfc /scannow command to see if any files were missing and that got it working besides changing the view settings. i said it was unlikely to be the solution, i should have made it clearer so i'll say it this way... it is so unlikely that i would bet my user status ...what say you . The problem is the view settings nothing more

As for the school thing, i generally meant high school... was wondering if you were a self taught pc enthusiats or if you were introduced at a young age... me, im self taught (although i was taught a little in school). Actually i wonder this from every one so i'll start a off-topic thread... disregard

The suggestion to change the view was to see if the problem persisted not as a solution. A glitch in Windows during the installation sounds about right where something is either missing or saw a bad install. The system file checker is the tool for system file verification and repair if needed. It was in Window before XP came out.

no the suggestion to change the view setting will solve the problem forever, hence it is the solution... in fact it is the only solution.

First I would need to take an overall "view" of the situation to "explore(r bar)" closely and no one was "check(ed off)" at me. Otherwise I might have to "Ctrl" the feeling to "(ESC)ape" from all of this. How did I do?

Didn't you review the article on "missing tool bars"? Don't tell me you didn't understand the last post? If ANNR used the system file checker already then you won't have anything to worry when the view settings are changed. Upon completion of any Windows installation that's used before the list of programs are installed in case something didn't go on right like a bad install. oh no... How can you say "silence" when nobody could even logon? for a few hours?

Yes, and it bore no relevance on this case

The sfc will not solve this problem, it would be like recommending a disk refragment.... totally pointless in this case
