 What AMD's have two cores?

I was thinking of getting and AMD with about equal performace (or better) to the Intel 6600 Core2 Duo. I dont know much about AMD, I will probably will be doing computer gaming and video editing but also to just surf around the internet.

Which AMD is the best buy to go with for this category?

And will everything else be compatible (exept motherboard ;) ?)

AM2 athlon x2 4800 up is probably the one u r looking for. I think it will have the equal performance to e6600. But if u looking to suppass E6600 then u probably have to go with the AM2 althlonx2 5200. To ur second question. since if u pick am2 ur ram is going to run at ddrII instead of ddI so make sure u dont get it wrong else ur motherboard(which going to suppor am2)ain't going to support the ram.

If you want to surpass E6600 performance, the only processor out there would be the FX-62, and the E6600 still beats that in a lot of tests.

the 4800+ and above would be the way to go for what you want.. altough, why don't you want to take a Intell based pc instead?

I'm happy with my X2 4200. I'm sure it's pretty low end when compared to C2D's and all, but the performace isn't bad at all.

However, read up on benchmarks and what not. Most will show the Core 2's are better than AMD's a good bit of the time.

As others have said, the only processors that would compare or beat the E6600, would be an X2 5000+ or higher (X2 4800+ is more equal). The Core 2 Duo's are the better buy however.

The reason I thought of not going with INTEL is because I have heard that AMD is the way to if you going with gaming.. So I thought that it would be better if I go with AMD.:D

but is it worth it at the end. :P

YES. AMD used to be the king for gaming, back when Netburst and the Pentium 4/ Pentium D series were the top for Intel. However, now with the Core 2 being out, AMD has fallen behind, and Intel is the king for gaming and multitasking as well. Not saying that AMD is bad, but in most cases Intel is better.

When it was the Athlon 64 vs the Pentium 4, the AMD was far better in gaming. However with the release of the Core 2 Duo, Intel is now the king of gaming :)

the two companies have been swapping bragging rights for some time now. Intel will have its position at the top for now, AMD will beat them with something in the future and the circle will continue :)

yea it used to be AMD is best for gaming and intel is best for multithreading with hyperthreading... then AMD released its dual core and took over both sides of the market, now intels got core 2 duo and they took both sides... of course ive heard things and i think AMD may take the market back over with 4x4 and K8L lol.... the longer you wait the better the computer will be, simply moore's law.
