hey i want a new video card and i was looking at a radeon x1650 agp 8x but i dont know if it will run at full potential since my pc is a bit out of date so maybe its best to go a x800 instead?

amd athlon xp 2600+ 1.9ghz
mobo asrock k7vm4 agp 8x
current video card: ati radeon 9200 se
512 mb ram

someone also told me my cpu is equal to a pentium 2.6ghz is this true?

The one everyone was raving about was the X850 Pro for an AGP card. But you also have to go by your budget and praacticality. I ran three different NVidia and ATI cards on the Socket A board I was running. The last one had an ATI 9550 256mb card with the 9660 chip on it. But the Catalyst updates are a little past that model.

The XP2500 was the one that would oc right past several Intel models performance wise. What AMD did with the Atholon XPs is work on the basics rather then the cpu clock speeds. The XP3200+ would often outperform P4 3.2-3.4ghz models cpus in reviews and that was a 2,2ghz model.

dean ur bad luck... u got classic agp..... nowadays agp cards are expensive than modern pci express.... well atleast in usa and in some parts and some stores.

anyway i say go for x850 instead of x1650pro. seriously x1650pro is not all that... its jus a budget card.

u play current shader 2.0 games? or u planning to play new gen games that has shader 3.0? if shader 2.0... i suggest x850xt/pe and if shader 3.0 games i suggest x1800xt up / 780gs up

not sure if x1800xt and 7800gs have agp tho...

but anyway... i got my x850xt for 111.111..... and x1650pro is about 100.00 right? so y not get x850xt for faster speed its worth it.

First of all I think you should make a new build because your CPU is not good at all.

Also, the X1650 pro is not good at all.
7600GS, 7600GT and X850xt performs better than X1650 and they are about the same price

The thing is here is whether Dean11 is in a position to build a new case or simply go for a better card on the current. Things like a faster cpu and more memory would also help along with a newer card. The problem there with the X850 line is that they would overkill there. But the card could be used on a newer build that also ran an agp not pci-e card. That would be less then what would be seen with pci-e 16x card.

If you can, build a new computer. If that is not possible, the next two upgrades would be 1GB of memory and a better graphics card, somewhere in the 7600GS area. You don't want to put too much money into that computer, and the 7600GS provides big bang for the $$.

i play games like doom3 and farcry but on low graphics level. Im starting to want to play games like battlefield 2142 and F.E.A.R. i dont know what shader 3.0 and 2.0 is? i guess its the game graphics engine? i think im gonna go for the x850 pro agp 8x

shader 3.0 aka pixel shader 3.0 and yes its a graphic engine.

my x850xt and recently got 2gig of ram from 512.... i played do0m3 demo and farcry on high-max settings with no problem! when i was playing fear on x850xt 512ram... i play on med settings decently but not high.

so far im proud of my x850xt....

As others have said, the x1650PRO is not a good card, the 7600, 7800, or x850 would be much better.

You will find out fast that the newer games will take memory as well as a better card. Some of them will demand a faster cpu as well. The game specifications may not say that but the ingame performance will show it.
