My computer freezes up on me!

I have an Athlon 2.60 machine, 1GB PC400 DDR, 256MB ATI videocard, 160GB sata harddrive. I mainly use it for graphics using Maya8 software. It freezes up on me when rendering large resolutions especially when rendering in MentalRay. Smaller resolutions are ok but when i already do several test renders, it also freezes. I'm not 100 percent sure that my MentalRay settings are correct though but I can't seem to find any hardware problem. Can somebody give any suggestions? THANKS IN ADVANCE. :rolleyes:
 
I think it may just be too much for your processor. IS it a single core? Does it use Hyper threading?
 
There's a good chance that you need a system upgrade. If you can upgrade, I would suggest getting a faster processor, as well as upgrading to 2GB of RAM (the later suggestion would help a lot)
 
Hi while I can not help some times "Open Office 2" freezes up
it happens after I have been to a web page and did not want to print about six pages of useless information, I copy and paste a small portion of information the computer freezes up after I do the "paste" part.
