Hard Disk problems...

hi,

Can i use 2 hard disk at 1 time ? i mean at 1 time, i use 2 internal hard disk ? is that possible ? Or i must use 1 internal and 1 external ? pls help me, because my hard disk is full with 20GB things, i plan to buy a new 1.
 
Some newer boards are primarily Serial ATA with only one ide controller. On those boards you generally see Windows or another OS installed to the primary sata and can add an ide if needed along with the cd/dvd drive installed. On those boards the addition of a second sata would work better. On a board with two ide drives you simply add a second hard drive as a slave to the primary host drive by connecting that to the center connector on the ribbon cable and setting the jumper at the rear of the drive to SL for slave. The disk management tool in control panel>administrative tools>computer management(in XP) can then be used to partition and format the new drive.

That's what same channel means. A hard drive will only be slowed down by the optical drive when the optical is in use, otherwise it's unaffected.
 
what if you wanted to play a game that was installed on that hard drive, with the game cd in that cd drive?

I run two identical ide drives here on the primary ide cable with a cd writer as master to a dvd burner on the secondary. A game installed to the hard drive will always see a gain over one that runs while having the disk in an optical drive. You will more likely see lags at times due to this rather then always pointing a finger at the model video card or need for a driver update. Actually SoE runs faster and smoother due to less intense graphics and less memory used on cd over HL2, Episode One, or CS installed to the drive. The lags seen when running off a cd are due mainly to loading time and that's can sometimes be seen with a 52x24x52 speed drive.
 
I think the question refered to an installed game that requires the cd to be in the drive as a way to make sure you have the game. The rest of PC eyes answer still applies, if the CD & hard drive are being read from at the same time then you will see a performance drop but this would probably only ever occur when you are loading the level.
 
i have no idea what he's talking about. i simply wanted to know, if both a hd and a cd drive were on the same cable, and the game was installed on that hard drive, and the game disc was in that cd drive, would you see a performance hit because of the cd drive being on the same ribbon as the hd?
 
There's only a performance hit when both are active, so probably only during the loading process.
