My first build

Have been playing on computers for 10 years now, and have just recently started learning about what makes them tick. I am still very much a noob but I am researching constantly. I have decided to build my own computer, and I have a package of sorts constructed. This computer is primarily for gaming, and I want it to last at least four years.

Mostly I'm concerned with compatibility.

Price range, about $1100 for just the comp, have monitor, keyboard, etc already.

Item names are copied and pasted from newegg. The major part I am currently debating over is the memory, those two sticks are about 250 after rebate. I am wondering if DDR2 800 is worth it, opposed to 675 and lower.

Also I know with that memory/mobo combo, I will need to do some tinkering in BIOS (never done before) to make them compatible (change timing and voltage) I am wondering if that is pretty straight forward.

Any information/advice would be great, thanks in advance. =)

OMG it is almost like my comp. I would recommend 512MB even though it is not needed. It might help in future. Also to wait till' DX 10 Cards come out if you want it to last that long

512MB would be nice, but it would put him far over budget.

DX10 cards are already out, but the cheapest is $460.

True about the budget, but if he wants it to last that long it would server him right. And about the DX-10.... :P

I'm planning on building one for 1,200 I'm deciding to wait..(if i can make it) until the DX 10 cards go down to around 300$ I figure its wait the wait, plus by then the 6700 will be cheaper. but thats just me.

If I do not wait for DX 10 cards to lower in price and just get something to tie me over three months or so, I would just have to get the new card and Viesta when I wanted to upgrade? Everything else should work =P

Oh and I also found a 512 card that looks sick, but it would probably pointless since I would get a DX10 around March. Anyways...

270 opposed to 145ish, I could swing that if it would be worth it, but again with DX10 and Viesta...

The cheaper card says it is Vista compatible, the 512 makes no mention of it, which I guess wouldn't matter if I was changing cards as well.

Hopefully no super popular games will come out that require DX10 for a while, I don't really want to replace a card that I'd only have a couple months.

I don't know how much longer I can stand this Dimension 2400, 64mb card, 1gig ram system for >.<
