what to spend it on? or should i wait and save up for something else?
i was thinking id get the xtreme gamer professional series sound card with 64mb xram lol
hmm, or is that even worth it?
i could get a raptor... but i couldnt get two raptors :(
maybe i ought to save for two raptors...
or maybe an 8800gtx?

opinions please lol

What do you need two Raptors for? Just get one. I can't imagine why you would need a soundcard with 64MB of RAM on it. That seems a little nuts to me.. You don't like the VGA you have now?

Personally I'd spend it on beer and smokes.

Hey, if you want to spend over $100 on a soundcard, more power to you! Personally, I could never see myself spending more than $50 on a sound card, and that'd be pushing it.

Unless you really want to squeeze every last bit of performance out of your system, or the onboard audio is that bad, why don't you save the money and purchase something that'd REALLY improve your performance. What about a new GPU when the 8800s and other DX10 cards are a bit more reasonable?

two raptors = RAID 0 = double bandwidth.
and no, im really not all thats satisfied with my video card.
and well, i might spend it on beer but im not 21, and smokes are disgusting to me.

you're probably right. my audigy 4 is fine for now...

maybe ill get a storage hard drive... external 250gig sounds good...

any other suggestions are appreciated :)

RAID 0 is not double the bandwidth at all. Whoever told you that is on crack. As a matter of fact I can show you a ton of benchmarks and a review that will tell you that it's a complete waste of money, offers almost no performance advantage over a single Raptor, and has no place on the desktop.

The fact that you have two Caviars in a so-called "RAID" configuration is laughable in itself. You could draw the data on the platter faster with a pencil. Those are very low end, very moderate use harddrives. A single Raptor would simply smoke that "array".

Here's a wild idea. Put the money in the bank.

Haha, I used to be exactly the same way as him. I would never have more then like $200 because I would spend it on computer parts, but even with my major computer purchase, I still have around $1000 left.

for $200 you can get really nice shoes...
I suppose it would...or a nice handbag :P but a time will come when you are living paycheck to paycheck and every bit you save now will make a difference.

PWNED
in fact my minimum is now higher than my maximum bandwidth was. memory bandwidth was in fact, nearly doubled.
and to tell you the truth, dual raptors only scored 20mbps higher than mine did... so for under $100 i got a REALLY good deal for the performance my drives give. the main difference is in access time, they score 8-9ms whereas mine score 13-14ms.

btw i decided im gonna get an ATI tv wonder card. the 650 to be specific. looks like a good deal, especially since i get mad discounts.

why the hell would you take all your money and spend it on computer parts, put it towards something useful man, who gives a shit about the "performance" of your computer. here's a suggestion go buy a guitar and become good at it, or something else you like. Just an idea that seems less of a waste of money.

Save you money. You gotta think about the future. At least save for a whole new computer.

Oh, I have x amount of money! Let's go buy a new graphics card! I mean, I can't play my new games maxxed out at 2048x1536, so it is time for a new graphics card!!

Hmm. Pwned? Someone mentally deficient?

The last I looked, twice the bandwidth of 60 MB/s is 120 MB/s, not 100 MB/s.

Let's see what Storage Review has to say about HDTach:

While it's a step up from the horrific SiSoft Sandra, HD Tach measures only low-level performance... it doesn't address how low-level results translate into high-level performance. An analogy: HDTach to HDs is like a diagnostic that tells you your 800 MHz P3 does indeed register 800 million cycles per second... that doesn't tell you about application-level performance, however.

The Raptor will smoke that crappy array, not to mention the fact that one single harddrive is far more reliable than "RAID 0"... I choke every time I type that out. "RAID 0" isn't even a real RAID array by definition.

I would have to say you pwned yourself Ace. It would help if you did some actual research about computers before you take everything they say at HardForums as gospel and end up making yourself look silly.

AWESOME IDEA!!!

give $260 on this forum $1, then have them pay shipping, then in a sense youll end up with more money, depending on shipping though. =/

but all great ideas have kinks in em

lol

maybe you dont get what computer forums are for. here is a hint. COMPUTERS. if we liked guitars (which i'm not saying i dont) we would be GUITAR FORUM...
c'mon computers are a good thing to upgrade in my view, just as getting a nice bass guitar may be to you too. ;)

EDIT: please dont cuss. (personal preferance)
