hi i am a compleat noob and don't know much about computers but i am thinking of up grading my computer. i have a gateway 2000 edition that has a windows xp profesional, intel pentium 4 processer (1500MHz), 128 MB of RAM, and a 19gig HDD. The computer is really slow. i will not be doing any real gaming with it its just a internet browser and homework computer with a occasional cheesy online games. i am on a very tight budget. one HDD i was thinking about was the Western Digital 250GB. as far as processer and ram, im not shure i want to spend the money on them right now. like i said im on a very tight budget. maybe you guys can name a few prcessers and memory that is cheap but still better then what i have now.

thankyou in advance

Upgrade your RAM to at least 512MB. 250GB is a lot more space then you think, go for a 120GB HDD. Get Windows XP reinstalled to clear the crap that builds up and just use the single 120GB HDD. Processor? depends, do you have 478 or the older socket?

this is what i found out from gateway

so what does this mean as far as what type of ram i can buy? im looking at only spending around $80 for the memory.

im getting confused. when i do a search for RDRAM i get DDR SDRAM. these arn't the same are they?

is ther any way to get sd ram to work when rdram is supposed to be used? from the little that i have seen it looks like rdram is like 3 times as much as sdram:eek:
