Upgrade Help

Hay,

I'm looking to upgrade my current PC, i'm looking to spend under £600, how does this sound.......
Graphics Cards :GeCube Radeon x1300 Pro Crossfire 512mb x2
M'Board : MSI RD480 NEO 2-FI
PSU: Thermal tek W0096 550w
CPU: Athlon 64 4200+
Memory: Bytestar 512mb PC3200 DDR400mz x3

Currently i have
Graphics Cards :256MB RADEON 9600XT 8X AGP
M'Board : ASUS K8N-E Deluxe
PSU: STD 350w
CPU: Athlon 64 3200+ (754 pin)
Memory: 2x 512mb pc3200 ddr400

for £600 you should easily be able to go for a Core2Duo which would be much faster than the AMD line

Also don't go for low end cards in crossfire, a single higher end card would perform much better

1. Those video cards aren't worth their weight, especially in Crossfire. Instead, get a 7900GS.
2. You want to stick to brand name RAM.
3. While you are upgrading your CPU, Ram, and motherboard, consider upgrading to an Intel Core 2 Duo setup.
4. Can you post links to everything you are buying?
 
i'm just doing reasurch at the moment, i use the pc for Music, Movies, Gaming and work so would a Intel Core 2 Duo be better than AMD, and would i be able to find a setup under £600?

sure that could be trimmed easily enough to go under £600 easily enough, let me see what i can trim off :)

Core 2 would be great for that, however, it might be hard to get for under 600 pounds. Would the setup that you had originally be under 600 pounds?

EDIT: nvm. jimmymac has a great setup going there.
 
Yep the one i posted was 575.00, the main thin i want to do is to be able to play the latest games, and unfortunatly the Graphic card i've got is bollicks, and my motherboard is not PCI-E and the cost of a decent AGP graphics card is stupid, so i think a overhall is due.
 
the ghz rating means very little at the mo, the core2duo line is currently destroying anything in its path

an e6600 will ice an athlon 64 fx-62 :)

First off, you are comparing a dual core to a single core, so there will be a difference. As jimmymac said, the Ghz doesn't matter nearly as much nowadays.
