I have spent a lot of time putting this build together and I think it is just about final. I will be using it for all purpose and some gaming but I want it to be fully upgradeable and to last for 5 years. Have I completed a solid build that will do these things?

Is it all compatible? Am I missing anything?
And for the RAM, I wanted DDR2 800 1.8 volts, however corsair does not make this, only Kingston so that is what I got. If my mobo is DDR2 800 compatible, could I get Corsair DDR2 667 1.8 volts to save some money?

I dont plan to overclock or alter anything in any way besides putting it together and running it.

the case is a heavy one make sure you have enough strength to carry each. have some spinach handy. :)

lol ok, i wanted enough space to be upgradeable and I will basically never move it from the office in my house

stop mentioning that to everyone, the processor is more important than the GPU especilly for me, im not s super hardcore gamer, just some Battlefield 2142, Age of Empires 3, and Flight simulator X, which the 7950 can handle just fine without degrading my processor for a 500 dollar GPU

that ram isnt 1.8 volts, and other people left reviews saying they had problems with it and my mobo can only handle 1.8 volts, that RAM is like 2.1 volts

i was thinking of downgrading to DDR2 667 but could a DDR2 800 mobo do that?

Yes

Yes it will be fine. Being a DDR2 mobo means it supports UP to DDR2 800. You can go lower with no issues. ;)

Don't listen to the reviewers. By now all of the Core 2 motherboards have gone through enough BIOS revisions to have sorted through everything. Most memory (Corsair XMS memory included) will relax timings and such to run at 1.8V.

You said you want it to last 5 years. You just MIGHT want a DX10 card for Vista.

ok because it does say 2.1 volts, and my mobo can only handle 1.8 volts, but if you say so...

yeah maybe i would want a dx10 card but i think the 7950 is good for my purposes...

Good for your purposes right now, but don't you plan on using Vista sometime in the next 5 years? I don't see a reason to go from a e6400 to a e6600 when the difference isn't big. Overclocking will always be an option because of these chips' potentials. Even if you don't, having the better graphics card will support you longer and make you futureproof.
Also those games you mentioned, especially FSX is pretty graphics intensive.
I don't think I need to explain further. Please post your opinion.

Vista can only handle DX10?? Is this true? Because I didnt know this... someone tell me please.

As for the processor, I will not be overclock or altering it and I prefer the 2.4 GHZ, unless you can tell me how to overclock it, I prefer a little more performance for it to last longer.

And if you go to the P5B Deluxe mobo's specs it says it is for 1.8V unless I read this wrong, not 2.1 V

Vista can run on DX9, but you won't get all the features.

The stock voltage is 1.8, but it has options for 2.1V (I am 99% sure of this)

I have the P5B deluxe and it has options for several different voltages. It may say 1.8v stock but set on auto mine chooses 2.1v which is what my ram is set at. You can also set it manually. It's just the stock setting may be 1.8v but it can go higher. 2.4v is the max I think.

I never said Vista only runs on DX10. But all features won't be available. From what I'm guessing, the future is DX10, even 5 years from now.

yeah thanks guys, and for the overclocking of the E6300 to get it to 3.0 GHZ, is this easily done?

Is there a comprehensive OCing guide someone could post?

Thanks

woah i just looked up overclocking

its just a bunch of changing the multiplier, FSB, and vcore very slowly and cautiously over weeks at a time to eventually achieve the desired result.

Is this all there is to it? And what does it mean to be "stable"?

So now do you recommend i get the E6600 and overclock or the E6300 and overclock if it is my first time on my new build?

Or should I not overclock at all, and test a small overclock on my computer now?

What does OCing do anyway?

Thanks
