File compression

First can I say hello to all members of this board
My question, I'm after a good compression program
The reason for this is I've encoded about 1,000 music tracks to WMA format.
When I send them to disc (DVD) it takes up 3.19GB of disc space, I've still got 1,000's of tracks to rip, so besides burning them to muptiple discs I'm stuck
I've tried 7zip and similar programs
any ideas?

Well let me first say hi and welcome, hope you stick around :)

WinRar is the best compression program out there in my opinion.

.wma like .mp3 is already a compressed format. It should, technically, be a little better than .mp3; however, it's not as compatible with media readers as .mp3. So, since it's already a compressed format, you really can't improve any results by compressing it any further win rar, zip, 7-zip, etc.. If you do, you will only save like a few megs, not so much that you can add tons more songs.

that is why I suggested making a compressed disk image, you can usually cut the size of the file in half. For example, when I image a system (OS + Apps) and the total size of the image is 8 gigs, I can compress the disk image to approx 4 gigs using certain compression methods, like gzip or the likes.

I only really use the open source stuff because it is free, but I think even win image might make compressed disk images.

So what you do is make an image file of your folder containing your data, then compress that image and burn it onto a disk.

Well, I didn't say to don't use a compressed disk image, did I? I know what that is and I am just gaving him/her information that trying to compress them even further is probably a waste of time. :) Thus, another solution would be that method.
