making old laptop faster for just surfing

Hi
I have a P 111 laptop 1.1 GHZ or 1100 and 128 RAM. How can I make it faster for internet surfing as I use it for only that purpose.

What options would work?
1 - 128 RAM to 512 RAM
2 - Uninstalling XP and installing some light weight OS (Win Me?)

1 or 2 or both or any other?

I would deffinetly uninstall XP, since you only have 128MB. Win 2000 would be best, but ME would be okay.

Whatever, as suggested, Windows 2000 would be the best OS. I'd strongly advise saying away from ME. It's very buggy. If you only have 128M RAM, more would certinally help with most any OS but it's not a must.

Someone mentioned getting a stripped version of XP. There's this program called BartPE that takes Windows 2000, XP, or 2003 and puts it on a CD. You can then take this and load it on your computer. It's very light, but many of your common features are removed(no sound, basic video acceleration, etc) However, with some work, it can make a decent setup for light browsing.

Also depends on which browser you're using. Opera is considered the fastest web browser by consensus.

Linux would help because it's free so you wouldn't have to spend anything on a OS.
