Some have been looking at G.Skill for the faster timings on that brand. The discussion on Patriot on one thread brought up the actual name of the company that used to sell under another. If I'm not mistaken Cromewell was the one to ask about the company itself. But that company has apparently been around for several years already. Marketing is the main reason for the new Patriot name seen now.
I relocated the manufacturer for Patriot at PDP Systems. http://www.pdpsys.com/ It wasn't G.Skills so much as GEIL that I hear complaints on. The good names adding Patriot to the list are Kingston, Corsair, Crucial, OCZ, Mushkin along few others. The list isn't that large to keep that in mind. When you go to the board manufacturer's product often you will see a list of brands that have been tested and advertused as the ones to go with.
Ive had bad experiences with patriot memory. I bought one set of 1gb (2x512) and the first worked great. Eventually bought another (of the exact same set...used the model number) and it came in and my computer wouldn't start. Took it out and it worked fine. RMAd it and i got a new set. That too was blown. This time it just freezing up the computer every couple hours. (i checked everything...If you want to try and tell me it was my fault they didnt work be of the specs then by all means take a look at the signature and prove urself wrong)
In any case ive decided to give patriot another chance and i just bought a set of 2gb (2x1gb) sticks. If this works then ill scrap previous experiences as bad luck. If it dosent work then consider im not using them again.
