Does tuner quality matter?

If I'm hooking up my existing cable box to a tv tuner, would the quality vary from tuner to tuner? I suspect that the quality would only vary if I'm actually using the tuner to pull in stations.

There is no comparison between the quality of some tuners! Espcially when you begin capturing.

tuner quality does matter... mostly if you're recording HD though.
my tv wonder 650 supports HD though, so im good.

OK, I should rephase what I said... Tuner quality doesn't matter. However, capture card quality does. If you buy a $20 capture card(with a tuner or not) there's a slim chance it's have the same quality as a $100 capture card

just get an ATI brand in my opinion, reliable company with amazing drivers plus a catalyst media center that gets the channel guide (2 weeks worth of it) through the internet for you.

Well for one, a channel guide wouldn't matter if he's not using the tuner But also, you can get it totally free with some programs...
