What are you upgrading from? As far as performance, they are roughly equal.

ati radeon x850xt pe but I am looking for a card taht will last me a year or so thats why I asked if it would last me a year or so or should I just wait for the cheaper dx10 cards

The 7900GS should last you for at least a year

By the way cheaper DX10 will come out in one or two months, so I recommend to wait.
