I'm going to kill Firefox or IE or whatever is causing this

I just chose to upgrade to windows 2003 server so I could mess with things like Citrix and server stuff without having to run it in a VM. Anyways I installed Firefox and now when I go to use IE and type in an address it decides to pop the page up in Mozilla Firefox, but if I click a link or set the homepage in IE to somethin different it goes to the page. When I uninstalled Firefox IE said an application is missing. I love Firefox, but I need crapshit IE sometimes too. Please help it would be greatly appreciated

hahaha. That would be Firefox doing that. It's your fault for installing that POS to begin with, so I'm going to be mean and not tell you how to fix it. haha.

Ok. I'll give you a hint. Look under Folder Options > File Types from My Computer. Also look under Tools > Internet Options > Programs in IE. You owe me... Large.

I finally got my IE working!! YAY!!! You wouldn't believe how fast I got rid of Firefox. lmao.

Maybe an alternative browser like OPERA would work better? Thanks for the HINT, but could you please give just a little more info?????????

Opera is better than FF in my opinion. I use Opera for my porn, IE for everything else.

HE HE Ok so I imagine that I have to set IE to check if it's the default browser and in the Folder options under my computer the only thing I saw that I thought could be causing it is these 3 things URL: Gopher Protocol, URL: Hyper Text Protocol, and
URL: Hyper Text Protocol Privacy. I think it's the first one, but I don't know what to do with it and I don't want to mess anything up. I bet it's something silly Takes gun puts to head pulls trigger.

Ok. Well, you tried. Under the File Types look for .HTM and .HTML. Chances are they have been switched to Firefox. Change them back to Internet Explorer. And yeah, make sure that IE is set as the default browser.

That SHOULD work if memory serves me correctly.
 
Yep I set all that stuff no go. Do I have to uninstall Firefox for it to work? Uninstalled FireFox and still raping me in my asus takes gun and now points it at computer pulls trigger.

O.k. I got it figured out and it sure did have something to do with those 3 files. You have to change them to use the IE.exe and turn off dde on all of them and that fixed them. Thank god I thought I would never get it figured out.
 
I had this exact problem when I was switching back to IE (only reason I went to FF in the first place was because IE was crashing). At least you posted how you fixed it cause I know I don't remember what I did :P

Well if it wasn't for your helpful hints I wouln't of had clue of what to do. So thank you and I hope you can help me some other time in the future. Now if someone has this problem they can look it up on this site. I'll revise it so it will make more sense, but not right now cause I have to hit the sack it's 1:42 here and I have to wake up at 5:00 damn these computers are f'in me up.

I thought I might try something different. I was in one of those kinds of moods today where I damn near launched myself into orbit. I thought I would try to offer leads, while encouraging you to accomplish the task on your own. It's actually not a unique tactic, and I'm certainly not the one who came up with it. It's most commonly used in teaching at school.

It's effective, because the "student" is encouraged to come up with their own answers. In so doing they are more likely to retain the knowledge they have gained, rather than being spoonfed the answer.

My dad was a teacher for 26 years. Can you tell? lol :D

I can't use it normally, because others will jump in and give the answer. Which is totally understandable, given the parameters. This time I got lucky. Anyways, you're welcome and congrats on a job well done. ;)

You ever tried to breathe through honey? FF is just about as effective. It's as slow as molasses in January. Opera simply spanks it (and with the number of sites I open at once, it has to).

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to this, but hey I was feeling lazy.

Step 1:

Go To: My Computer>Tools>Folder Options>File Types

These are the four Items we are going to change for now.

Step 2: You can change URL: FTP, URL: Gopher Protocol, URL: HTTP, URL: HTTP with Privacy, HTM, and HTML which is a bit further down the list, but you should be able to find them.

Now we can change the properties of anything that I listed above. Click browse navigate to C:>Program Files>Internet Explorer>Choose IEXPLORER.exe for each one listed you can turn off DDE on each one of them and that's pretty much it. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions post them in this thread.
