Wii Recall

I don't see how it's not next generation....does next gen. only mean you have overpowered and overpriced parts in the machine?
Nintendo at least tried something completely new rather than do a little more with the same old stuff...

I whole heartedly agree, The Wii is just as next gen as any other console.

I'd say for it to be next gen it would have to not be the last gens hardware (I know it's not exactly the same but for all intents and purposes it is the same).

I can understand where your coming from. But because they changed it to a point that things are being done in a way they have never been done before, I'd call it next gen.

I say, if it is new and innovative (basically never done before), it is next gen.

For arguments sake the processor in the Wii is a RISC based PPC processor which is more powerful than most desktop processors that are on the market right now.

Not true

Wii has one core processor running at 729MHz (unconfirmed), so any low end desktop processor can easily beat Wii

That doesn't change the fact that if the PS3 survives 3 years I'll buy one when it's cheaper.

PS3 will survive for 10 years if not more

PS1 which was released in the end 1994 has survived to 2003 or 2004 which is about 10 years. PS2 was released in 2000 and it should survive until 2010, so that makes about 10 years

RISC based processing out performs parallel processing. Plus, a TON of OSes/apps/and even games don't even take full advantage of multiple cpus or cores.

There a lot games now days that takes the advantage of dual-core

But the any way I'm sure than even pentium 4 running at 2.4GHz can beat the Wii cpu by far. Wii CPU is not even comparable to celeron CPU.

Yup you are exactly right, because you can't compare x86 technology directly to PPC, however your claim about the P4 is ridiculous.

I urge you guys to post with some hard evidence of your claims, rather then bicker amongst yourself s.

well I was encouraging him/her to just research it themselves, but here is a good place to start

and for x86

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86

If PPC hardware did not have superior aspects of it, why does it run some of the most powerful server? It is in Cisco enterprise level switches, the ones that you know, run the internet? Yeah those. Your cell processor that is in the PS3, is based off of PPC technology. Solaris had some spark stations running their revision of a PPC processor already up to 8 Ghz.

Needless to say, in many aspect x86 architecture and PPC is very similar, however clock speeds as everyone should know, don't mean one is better than the other. My dual G4 500 rig at home will out perform some P4 processor no problem.

Oh also, just FYI, this is not an offical recall, they are replacing them only if the customer is requesting they do so. You can get up to 4 extra wrist straps if you go online and fill out this form.

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wiiplay.jsp

They also released and idiots guide for people who can't understand basic safety concepts. Like if you are standing 3 feet from your tv, yeah you are probably going to hit it swinging the wiimote.

I typed in my s/n of my wii and my shipping info and with in probably 9 seconds I get this automated reply from the website.

Wii Remote Wrist Strap Replacement Request

Your request has been processed.

Thank you for your request. Once your replacement wrist strap order has shipped, you will receive a confirmation email from Nintendo. We expect to begin shipping replacement straps around December 21st. It will take 5 to 9 days for delivery depending on your location. Please do not contact Nintendo regarding your replacement wrist strap until after that time period has passed.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your interest in our products.

It verified that I qualified for the replacement in a matter of seconds since apparently only the very first shipment had the first type of wrist strap.
