why do these multifunctional TV/LCD monitors look like garbage?

i have a samsung 215tw, and it has component/s-video/component inputs. composite never really look good so i dismiss that, s-video looks surprisingly good in comparison, but it still looks like GARBAGE compared to the same source running on a SDTV.

component looks awful, i havea pro-scan DVD player and few ps2/GC games running on component and they look horrible compared to a SD/HD TV running the same source.

the multifunctionality looked like a good investment, but now i regret blowing 700(CAD) on a fricken computer monitor.

***ADVICE. buy a TV and buy a monitor, stay away from multifunctional monitors.

anyone could have told you that before you wasted your money

that thing's a monitor 1st, and a tv 2nd. not even 2nd, television is a complete afterthought, you can tell by the native resolution, and even the aspect ratio

you could've gotten a much much much much much better monitor for under $200 usd.

As for HDTV's, there aren't a whole lot of cheap solutions. You've basically gotta pay to play, or wait a few years for prices to drop. Even with an HD signal, that monitor isn't 720 OR 1080 native, it wont look nearly as good as it would on a screen designed to be a television.

My LCD monitor actually has many video inputs even though its not really an LCD TV (doesn't have a built in tuner for cable and antenna). It has DVI, VGA, composite, component, s-video, and stereo speakers built in. Its native resolution is 1680x1050 and its 22" widescreen. It cost me $199 at Best Buy on black friday. It can also do 1600x1200 for some reason.

well its not a bad monitor, its pretty sweet actually, its a crappy TV substitute, and thats the point i was trying to make.

and im not tryign to run anything over 480p, becasue thats what the monitor is capable of putting out

erm.. you know that tv's are much crappy-er than monitor's,.. right?
I mean.. thry sitting 1,5 feet away from your tv for 3 hour's in a ow,.. and then do the same with a monitor.. ;)
