Is "overclocking101" outdated?

After reading "CPU101", I was disappointed not to read anything about the Core2duo, probably because it was written a year and a half ago, and wish it could be updated.

But my question is, . . . IS the information in the "overclocking 101" manual, Im about to read, oudated or in need of updating? like the "CPU101" to better understand the issue as it applies to todays technology?

Thanks for the links. I now get the idea of what overclocking is, and from reading that "you may just end up with a pool of melted silicone", I think I'll only be playing with the silicon from HomeDepot. Im not willing to risk damaging hundreds of dollars of equipment and cant understand why anyone else is.
 
no no it melts if you have absolutely no idea what the heck you could possibly be doing. The only reason it melts is from stupidly raising the Vcore by like 10 volts, when the max it ever should be raised is like .5 volts

Well, I have no idea, never done it before, but Im still scared just thinking about it. I only have a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz at the moment and am in the middle of reading that its possible to raise it to 3.5. Dont know whats involved, but at least I know if I fry this computer, I can buy a totally new Dell replacement for about $220.

Is it possible to slowly raise the CPU speed on this P4? or will I not notice much of a difference in speed performance?
 
As apj said, some of the references and links to processors may be outdated, but you still overclock the same way.

These are with the 680i, but all the same principles, more recent principles, apply. Id say the OC 101 is a little outdated

if you want ds3 OC links just search in google for"Core 2 Duo Overclock Gigabyte DS3" thats what I did and youll find great guides

If you have a dell, then you are not going to be able to overclock. And yes, you always speed the CPU in small increments until it gets unstable, and that is the limit.
