Athlon 3200 processor only reads out at 1293.1

bought my MB used, Asus A7N8X-E deluxe and it already had an Athlon 3200 installed. Well I bought the game, Need for Speed Carbon today and when I start up the game, it shuts down the puter and put out an error to report to Microsoft. I did send the one and it came back that the drivers were probably not written correctly. Well after checking requirements a little further with the game (it'll check your puter for you) it comes up my processor is only at 1293.1 and I have the Athlon 3200 installed. Well since I put this together the only thing I touched in bios was, no floppy. How can I check the processor speed in bios and how do I change it? Also,,,,,,,,,,,,why would it read so low? Came back to do a little edit. I just went into my computer and checked view system information and the it says it's 1.29GHz.

Sounds like you need to set your FSB to 200mhz, 200X11=2200, after that update your chipset drivers and video drivers

I had the same problem. Stranglehold is right. Go into BIOS. For me it was under Power BIOS, might not be fore you but its somewhere in the BIOS.

that's wrong. it's just amd's cool 'n quiet technology. it automatically turns down the processor speed when it's not needed so it will run cooler 'n quieter. you can disable that option in the bios if you want it running full blast all the time.

Cool'n'Quiet™ Technology Overview
In the past, increased processor performance has often meant increased power consumption and increased noise levels. AMD's Cool'n'Quiet™ technology is an innovative solution available on AMD ((Athlon™ 64)) processor-based systems

run cpu-z and look at the speed of your cpu when idle, then look at it again after opening a cpu intensive program. you will see the processor speed go up when it's needed. if you shut the program down, you will see the speed go back down. mine goes down to 1200mhz at idle, i think that's the standard idle speed.

I've just had the exact same problem... With help from Stranglehold and Archangel... My 2400+ was showing up as 1800+.

Check the jumpers on the motherboard, Mine were set to 200MHZ when they should of been 266MHZ.

Check the manual for the jumper settings... You should have the FSB Jumpers on the mother board set to 200MHZ?

Anybody double check that?

Woops... I didn't check into the mobo. I assumed it was an Athlon 64. Though a few XP's did have Cool 'n Quiet. Though, I beleive just the mobile ones...

Yeap, Laptops has a thing called Power Now

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) offers PowerNow! technology on AMD mobile Athlon and mobile Duron processors. The PowerNow! technology adjusts the processor's performance and power consumption by dynamically adjusting the processor's operating frequency and voltage. Windows XP requires an additional driver (the Amdk7.sys driver) to enable the AMD PowerNow! functionality.
