I was trying to figure this out and on the ram101 thread I found this:
Can I Mix Between Memory Speeds?
There are some motherboards that are really finicky with their memory however in general if you mix two (compatible) memory modules (or more) they will all run at the speed of the slowest module so you'll be ok. This also applies to installing higher speed memory than the slot is rated for. Another option of course, is to overclock the modules so that, in effect, you force the slower module to run at the same speed as the faster module

my question is could i stick like 5 512mb sticks on my mobo to make it have 2.5gigs of ram?

It means if you put a stick of PC2700 in with a stick of PC3200 both sticks will run at PC2700.

You can't stick 5 512MB sticks in unless your motherboard has 5 RAM slots which it probably doesn't. I doubt you need more than 2GB of RAM anyway.

i think it has 4 pci express things and thats where i put them in. Tell me if this isnt logical but couldnt i put in 4 512 sticks and have 2gigs like that? maybe even overclock it some after that?

PCI-express slots are for graphics cards (and some other expansion cards), where RAM slots are for RAM. RAM won't fit in PCU-express slots.

In this picture, the RAM slots are blue and located to the right of the processor (white square) and are vertical. The expansion slots are underneath the processor in a horizontal line.
