Video Card Upgrades?

Hi there, I recently purchased the 'Desperate Housewives' PC game, and unfortunately it doesn't work on my system as the video card is not up to date.

I have an SIS 650 card, does anyone know any way of updated that card so that the game will run. I'd prefer to download something than have to physically install it, if you know what I mean.

I'm not a technical wizard, and I'm not an expert at computers, but if someone could really help me out I would be ever greatful.

Thank you.

You cannot "download" anything to upgrade your graphics card. You will have to physically change it.

Oh, it's just what the trouble shooting guide on the game tells me to do is update my video drive. So I have to order a new video card?

I remember looking into doing that a while ago and it looked very complicated. What exactly does changing your video card involve? One site I looked at said you had basically take apart the whole modem and fiddle about with stuff. Is that true?

You can download and upgrade your video card driver, but that's not going to do much of anything. If the original driver doesn't support the game, chances are the newest one won't either.

To install a new video card, you simply need to pop it into your computer. Since you have onboard, you may be limited to PCI... You also might need to disable your old one, but that really depends again on what interface you have. If you have an AGP slot in your computer, the onboard will disable itself.

Oh right. I was going to do this in the near future anyway, but do you think it's best to buy a new computer than mess about with a video card, that might cost alot.

It's surprising that my video card isn't compatible with most games now, as I only got it mid/late 2005.

Its onboard video, The SIS 650 is about equal to a Geforce 2 MX200, not all that good! Whats your computer?

I never know what to say when people as me that question! But here's a bunch of info about my computer -

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002 (Wow, it is quite old! I didn't know that!)
Service Pack 1
Packard Bell Computer

Does that help out in any way??

Right click on "My Computer" and click "Properties" It should tell you the processory/cpu type and how much ram it has. Tell us what is says like here's an example:

Pentium 4 3.0GHZ 512MB Ram.

Ok, that says -

Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz
2.59 GHz
448 MB of RAM

I also looked on the back of my computer, and it said the model nu.mber was L172R6

Those are the reasons you cant play games. The CPU isnt that bad, but you need more RAM to run newer games, especially with the integrated taking up more. If you dont want to mess with your computer, then i would reccomend a complete new one.

The reason that he can't play new games is because he has an old video card

He need just to buy a new video card in order to play 'Desperate Housewives' PC game

He said that he couldnt play "modern games", i was saying that he probably couldnt because of his RAM and his video card.

Look on you motherboard and see if you have a slot like this in the white square

Thanks for all your help guys, but I'd rather get a new computer than mess about with my current one. But thanks for everyones ideas.

Are you interested in building it yourself? If it's for games you can get a better one and save money. :D
