ok my computer is somewhat substantial. but it still runs slow. like for example, i cannot run two programs at once without super slow performance. i really do not think that it is a virus or anything of the sort. maybe i have too many programs running? is it the need for more ram? new processor? i can show a hijack this log... any input?

your ram is prolly the culprit, the min requirement to run win xp are 256mb of ram, so win xp itslef is prolly taking up most of the ram. Try using a program like ram Idle to tell you how much ram you have free and how much ramis being used.

You probably have many background programs running. Go into msconfig and see how many startup programs you have.

Both your RAM and your processor are slowing you down substantially. They are adaquate for running XP, but I think that you have a lot of background processes, which would indeed slow down your comp when multitasking.

I do agree that the RAM is the culprit. You may be able to run XP with 128MB of RAM, but when you have some apps open, it forces processes to the page file, which is much, much slower.

yes i will soon upgrade, but i am going to format both of my drives. any hints, pointers that are good when doing this??
