damn, I voted for the wrong processor... I meant the QX6700...

Why? The QX6700 is the best overall, but for the money...
Atually the X6800 performs better in most apps and games, because of it's higher clock speed :) But true, the QX6700 is the highest end CPU out there now.

For the best money-to-performance, I would go with an E6300, E6400, or an E6600, depending on your budget.

What you want in a CPU is simply this: CPU's now a days is not so much the speed in GHz, that doesn't matter any more. Every CPU has something called pipelines, the shorter they are the less speed you need to get data across from place to place. AMD used to be the king of this but now the Intel Core 2 duo leads in that race. If your looking for an all around CPU then The AMD would do BUT if you plan to overclock the the Core 2 Duo is the better choice.

ok soo the shorter the pipelines the better the processor. got ya. but ghz is still somewhat important. ok now what is overclocking???

You could say that, but you cant easily find out what type and stage pipelines a processor is has. And yes, Ghz is important when deciding on which CPU to get when your comparing the same type of processor, such as the E6300 and E6600. However you can't compare an E6300 to a Pentium D 930 purely by it's speed.

Basically overclocking raises the speed of the processor. Read OC101 for more info.

the question is easy tough.. a 486 or something like that.. If someone still has one lying around, Im sure you can have it for free... wich would sort of make that the ultimate bang for the buck cpu, no? =o

anyhow.. I still think the X2 line should be taken in consideration.. Because not everyone is overclocking.
