Ok, i need help, im too confused and rubbish with computers for this:

I want to upgrade some stuff in my desktop, bot too expensive as im getting a computer next year, but enought o get me by for now.

I want more ram, and also a newer processor.

My comp is terrible (P3 Processor, DirectX 8.0, 256Ram etc)

What processor should i get (remembering i dont do much gaming, mainly Unreal Tournament 04, Flight Sim etc). I need a cheap processor.

BUT! If i get a new processor, and i really should know the answer, do i need to update my motherboard/buy a new one or something?

Cheers

(P.S) if i need to update drivers for motherboard or something, where from?)

Ta

ok just get a new computer its hard to upgrade just that and you might as well get a new one for all the trouble, heres a good one for your purposes:

CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115005 - $191.00
RAM – http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145539 - $109.99
Mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138037 - $104.99
GPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127201 - $96.99
HDD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822144415 - $52.99
Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811119068 - $49.99
PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817182017 - $54.99

Total - $661

reasonable price and very balanced, and you can easily upgrade the RAM and GPU if you need to

Ignore what joewsm8 said

What are the specs of your processor? What speed?

What processor should i get (remembering i dont do much gaming, mainly Unreal Tournament 04, Flight Sim etc). I need a cheap processor.
How cheap is cheap?

BUT! If i get a new processor, and i really should know the answer, do i need to update my motherboard/buy a new one or something?
You probably will. At that point, it really becomes useless to keep upgrading.

(P.S) if i need to update drivers for motherboard or something, where from?)
It all depends what motherboard you have

Can you give us more detailed information on your computer?

Oh, and also a budget for the upgrades.

because if hes upgradeing his CPU and motherboard, and he has low RAM and an outdated system, you might as well just build a new one versus wasting money on a new CPU and motherboard and then upgradeing within a year...

just makes sense and a sub 700 C2D build is the obvious way to go

Yes, but no, and no. How many times need it be said that he is not building a new computer now? So would you stop recommending that he should?

as im getting a computer next year, but enought o get me by for now.
Is it really that difficult to understand?

a new CPU and mobo to get him by???

he has never even had a say in this anyway, but a new CPU and mobo to get him buy sounds like a new computer to me....

the thread starter said he wants a new CPU and mobo to get him by...

and he has never even responded anyway meaning he has never had a say...

Exactly, and that's why I recommended that he not do so.

wtf? a new CPU and a new mobo is essentially a new computer, i mean you dont get those parts just to "get you by"

exactly, i havent got the computer at the moment, i rarely use now, i guess im better just to wait for a new one rather than spend money upgrading on something ill replace within 6 months. I dont know whether building a computer is for me as i cant really justify spending extra time/effort/money on something im unlikely to make proper use of, i'll probably find me a stable build, maybe upgrade one or two things.

thanks for your help.

No, he said he wants a new CPU, and maybe a mobo if it is necessary.

and he has never even responded anyway meaning he has never had a say...
so then why do you have the right to speak for him?

wtf? a new CPU and a new mobo is essentially a new computer, i mean you dont get those parts just to "get you by"
Which is exactly why I said what I did.

Could you just stop? Like now? It's getting really annoying to have to point out the truth to you every 2 minutes.

Upgrading the RAM wouldn't be a bad idea, you would certainly see a performance boost. But yes, waiting is a good choice.

see i win! bobo you are one stubborn person...

and building is worth it, just buy the parts and go to your local computer store to put t together if you are scared

see i win! bobo you are one stubborn person..

How do you win?

All along Bobo was saying that huntleth shouldn't upgrade his processor, and just to wait until he can buy a new computer.
You were saying to buy a computer instead of upgrading.

Don't those sound just about the same?

bobo said to ignore my building the computer suggestion... and wanted to help him upgrade, while i pushed for him to build a new computer and not upgrade

Ya but he's waiting like he originaly proposed to do. You wanted him to go out get the parts and build a computer...now. Bobo only wanted to put a few upgrades in to tide him over until he did upgrade which he was inevitably going to do.

And he still doesn't shut up.

Could somebody please close this? The question has been answered sufficiently.

even though the thread starter is just going to wait and build like I proposed...no upgrades, yes I did answer the question and you can close it
