Motherboard Max Capability?

Is there anyway, other than looking through the manual of the motherboard, to find out its maximum limits for components such as HD, Graphics and Ram? I need to know how much my pc can hold before i splash out.

The only thing that has limitations would be the RAM, you can upgrade to any type of video card, as long as you have the right slot. And for the most part, any hard drive that uses the interface on your motherboard will work.

What model motherboard do you have?

the maximum limit of ram is 4gb. so on pc you can have just 4gb of ram while on Mac you can have 16GB.

All 32-bit versions of Windows Vista are limited to 4GB of RAM. If you choose to install the 64-bit Windows Vista code on a system whose CPU supports it, your RAM limits vary according to which version you’re installing. For Home Basic, RAM tops out at 8GB. Home Premium users can install and use up to 16GB of RAM. The Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate versions support 128GB of RAM or more.

I think i phrased this wrong, unless im wrong, but i think i meant for the bios, for instance, an old HP laptop can only have max of 10gb HD. Are there any limits for this, or am i wrong?

cheers

There are limits on older computers, but with a modern computer, no.

I was referring to the hard drive that he asked about, in which case the only limit is the number of connectors you have.

thats too old, you will only have PCI slots (no AGP or PCIE) and not many RAM slots at all, you might as well just build a new budget computer

so, i can upgrade anything i want as much as i want except RAM?

Even on my computer which is 7-8 years old?

Pretty much, except a 7-8 year old PC will only have PCI, or AGP 2x if your lucky. In that case, You will be limited in terms of graphics cards, and theres a possibility that your motherboard cant read over a certain amount of hard drive space (I believe its 127GB).

If you have an older version of Windows, it will limit you to 138GB of hard drive space unless you use a PCI IDE card.
