installing vista

i have vista rtm 6000 to install.

1. what is a good program for partitioning my hard drive?

2. what is a good boot loader?

3. in the rtm version is the 64 bit stable?

and if anyone could help me on msn or aim it would be even better
 
1: partition magic
2: dont know, i use the standard one
3: I would imagine it would be as its RTM (release to manufacturing ie final vershion)
 
on partition magic i get the error

the selected disk contains one or more partitions which cannot be moved.

i have done a disk defragment just before

edit at the top menu it has an option to install another os and it says the same thing
 
1. You can use vista's built in partitoner, it should do the job just fine so long as you don't have any linux distro's installed

2. Vista's own should be fine, again, so long as you don't have any linux distros installed as it will detect XP

3. Not sure, best way to find out is to install it

You are making a new Primary partion right?
 
i have resized my xp partition by 100 gbs. i then find out my partition magic is only a trial version so now i have 100gbs of allocated space and no program to make it into a partition

so your saying i just put in the vista disk and everything will all be on there?

also i have 100gbs of allocated space. will vista find that and be able to install on it?
 
i keep getting a bsod after i click custom install

edit: it was my fault i was trying to install it from the bios. i am installing it while my computer is running xp and it seems to be working


edit 2. ffs. during the setup it restarts and goes straight into installing off the disk. as soon as i click continue i get the bsod again

if anyone can help please do.

the error on the bsod says

KL IKER_THREAD_RETURNED_AT_BAD_IRQL

i cant see infront of the kl as its chopped off by my screen
