i read the other day that when you burn data onto a CD or DVD that it increaes in weight. i laughed but have not been able to find anyinfo to say this isnt rue. and also when you fill up a Hdd that it becomes heavier.

im not taking noticible to us but in general. how mad is that? and also some one please set the record straight! thanks! :D

The IT Teacher at my school asked me this once, he didn't know that either but my [probably totally wrong stupid full of nonsense] theory is that yes, it would be slightly heaver, as when you burn data the disc is been burned, therefore some kind of reaction would take place, and possibly more products are on the discs surface, although this could also go the otherway to say products have been lost from the surface.

Anyone have a very accurate set of scales to settle this for good?

see its one of those questions! i hope its true and i think it may be a question for wikipedia! google isnt much help :-)

How could it weight less or more? When you add data all thats happening is a laser etching in ones and zeros.

so its not possible? imho it would be fantastic if it done that! but shame that it doesnt.

From that site, this is what a user said:

A CD isn't burned. The blue layer just changes its colour if exposed to strong light. There can't be a weight change!
