dual boot question

Hi all, i am new to the computer forums and I was hoping you all could help me.

I recently got my hands on a Windows Vista distro and I am dual booting it and XP.

My question is if there is a way to use both at the same time.

Example: I am in Vista and want to look at a document on my XP partition. I want to open up a window or something where I can open my XP partition on it and run XP while in Vista and vice versa.

Thanks guys :)

Yes you can. The XP partition acts as another hard drive, which you will be able to see in windows vista. So you should be able to access your files either way.

That's not what he's asking.

The only way you can do this is with Vista Enterprise. Is that the version you have?

No, I have Vista Ultimate.

And while I can see my XP partition and most of the files on there they are secured so that I cannot access them or edit them.

Does that help you Bobo??

Ultimate is every single Vista version compiled, whats enterprise??

there is probably some program that can do that

Yeah, I thought a Virtual PC might work as well, but I was wrong with that :P

Anybody know of anything???

There should be some sort of virtual desktop or VMware out there that will allow you to run virtual machines of xp or vista while in one or the other. The problem is that vista is not complete and still incompatible with some things.

So, your really best option is to just dual boot, or get some sort of virtual desktop. M$ released theirs for free, and VMware makes on you can purchase.
