So I now have dual monitors... Any suggestions to put the second one to use?

I bought a 22" Samsung 225bw online through Futureshop's boxing day sale and since I didn't feel like waiting for it to arrive, I went to the walk-in-store boxing day sale and bought it there. The first thing I did when I came home was hop on the computer and cancel the order, but it was too late.

I now have two 22" Samsung 225bw's and I just hooked the other one up for a dual monitor. Now here is my question, what can I display on the second monitor that will be useful? Mind you, my desk is not big enough to fit two monitors on it, so my second monitor is on top of my t.v stand one foot away from me.

Either you can stretch the desktop onto both monitors, or you can make both display the same thing.

work on one, while you have a video on another?

may be worth considering a stand if you want to use both for your desktop, they'll both fit on your desk if you have a single stand for them

Yeah, I may need to purchase one. Both monitors are widescreen, so it's going to be pretty friggin' wide.

i would imagine

gains in productivity are all in increasing horizontal workspace, tho

vertical workspace has little to no advantage, not to mention, you have widescreen monitors, which can be rotated 90 degrees for increased horizontal workspace already, for viewing webpages in full, or entire photos in portrait-mode

i have a dual setup i basically watch a movie on one and instant message on the other or go on a website on one and once again instant message on another...dual would be good for video editing.

I just purchased a Canon XL2 videocamera not long ago and both monitors will come in handy once I edit footage.

I have a question though, shouldn't my second monitor display my desktop also? Right now, I have to manually drag my programs over to that monitor...

that's the way it is, they're seperate desktops

you can do a clone setup, where each monitor shows the same thing, but what's the point?

a cool program to buy is ulramon or ultramon i cant remember but it makes it so you have a taskbar on the second monitor :)

i kinda dont get what you mean by drag to the other screen cuz usually when i start up a normal program is opens up on the left but i move it to the right and some programs just start up on the right after you set it there but when you get dual there is a button on the top bar that moves it to the other screen for you.

I will give you an example.

When I use MSN and I am talking to someone, if I move the message window to my second monitor and I minimize it, it minimizes it back to my original monitor. Is there any way to use programs on the dual monitor and make it minimize on the dual monitor instead of the original?

I have a media center so if I had 2 montiors I would watch tv on one and the other just the computer. Or play games on one and watch tv on the other.
