Is 2GB of Ram too much for 3Ghz Pentium 4 CPU?

Hi! I am about to buy another set of Corsair DDR Ram on Newegg. But the problem is that I don't know if it would be an overkill/useless amount of Ram for my 3Ghz Pentium 4 CPU. I already have a set of 1GB ram, which came with my computer when I bought it. (a nameless brand... u know what I'm talking about lol) But I wanted some more RAM, and I was thinking of buying another 1GB set. Would this be a waste of money if you think in terms of CPU speed?

Btw, my CPU is Intel Pentium 4, 630 Processor 184-Pin PC3200? I think or 2700...

It shouldnt hurt it any. It might increase performance in gaming a little. Would def increase performance in multitasking and windows might load up a little faster. Id say go for it, 2gb of ram is becoming standard these days.
 
Are you sure your motherboard is compatible with DDR? The majority of LGA775 motherboards use DDR2.

If it is, in fact, DDR, then you might want to reconsider. The money that you would use to buy the extra GB of outdated DDR could be used for buying a new set of DDR2 that would last longer. I would recommend you wait on upgrading to 2GB until you are upgrading your entire system. The difference between 2GB and 1GB isn't enough to warrant spending money on something that is outdated.

I would say go for the 2 Gb....I think games like Battlefield 2142 realy enjoys 2Gb of ram.
And like its been mentioned,Would def increase performance in multitasking.

Some boards do used DDR. You can check on newegg for this :P

But it would be a good idea to check using CPUz or some such program to be sure you get the correct type of RAM ;)

And as others say, it shouldn't hurt anything. If you add to say your existing 1G(if you have that...) you will get slower timings, but typically, this performance decrease is very minuscule.

I think the increase in performance during multitasking and windows start up and most any ram intensive software such as 3D Design and Photoshop type programs would be worth the small amount of decrease from switching from 1T to 2T which im sure youd have to do with 4 sticks.
