ok so im going to college and need a computer. what should i get a desktop or laptop. i like gaming so a good quality computer would be nice. what am i looking for in a computer like graphics, gb's and other stuff. my range is 1800. i was looking at alienware, dell or just building my own. thxs, srry for all the questions.

it depends, you can get the best performance for the price that will blow away any laptop, but it wont be portable like a laptop. It depends what you want, portability or performance?

i really dont think ill be taking the laptop anywere if i get it. were do you guys transport you laptops.

i really want to use the computer for gaming. are laptops any good for gaming. thats why i wanted a desktop.

For my 15.4" laptop I use a targus back-pack, a bit pricey but durable and will hold even large laptops.:) Being on your back also reduces the strain on your shoulders.

sounds cool. so what do you recommend. a desktop or laptop. do i need to have a computer for classes and are laptops ok for games.

id personally get a desktop because you will have the best performance for anything you do. and for classes id think a laptop would distract me

It's always worth looking at Laptops, mine doesn't distract me at all, and if you do some frugal running, the battery can last ages...

im quessing you cant build a laptop but can i upgrade my laptop to give it more memory better graphics, video cards, hard drive, to make it more compatible for what i want it to do like gaming for example

I would say get a laptop. You're going to college, your not supposed to be playing games anyway, that time should be spent studying. And with the free time you do have, go someplace rather than just sit in your dorm and play video games :D . I am in the same market, and wanted a desktop for ever, but then the light descended on me and I figured the laptop was the way to go. I think it would be cool to go into the library or class and not have to be lugging around binders, pencils, paper, etc etc. When all you would need is your laptop.

great notebook GCR!!!I agree with the humanmage thoroughly, just wait in till ur homeless on a street because you wasted study hours gaming on a desktop that will never give you a house or food lol :D
