Hi, i am new to the forum, i am in Australia and know very little about the technical side of computer, however researching this problem has taught me quite a bit.
Ok the problem.
We bought a copy of Trend Micro's Internet Security package and when trying to install on the computer is instantly froze when Windows Auto Run tried to start the CD, it also freezes when you try and access the windows security centre. It doesnt just freeze that program though it freezes everything, you can ALT-CTRL-DEL and access task manager to end task you need to reset the computer and re-boot it. I have done numerous searches and cant find anything, mircosoft and Trend have no idea.
I downloaded spy doctor and it found 19 spyware programs and removed them but this hasnt changed the problem.
The computer has recently undergone an overhaul after it, we think, overheated. The hard drive, disk drives, modem etc remain the same but the motherboard has been changed. The motherboard is an ABIT KV-80 if that helps. Previous to the problem the copy of norton anti virus had been out of date for some time but the computer functioned perfectly. I have since removed NAV with the removal tool in order to install the Trend software.
Please if anyone has any ideas please share them with me cause i cant work it out.
Oh, also while the computer was out of action i borrowed my mum and dads laptop and since getting it back Dad is having the same problem with not being able to access windows security, and nothing has changed with that machine, its a HP laptop. Matt
