difference between EIDE and ATA 100?

Its all EIDE but there are separate speeds at which they can run. Usually they are ata 66, ata 100, and ata 133. Depends on the chipset and drive.

hah

12.5mm or 9.5mm? Either way, don't ditch any adapter that came with your laptop. I figured I could return a response after you read my post. Tip: Don't think it will fit easily, and I suggest a Hitachi or Travelstar(IBM). Both have been reliable for me.
