Overclocking Without Locks

Sorry, I got bored so I wanted to look into if it was possible to OC my CPU with the current board I have.....

The problem is that I don't have locks but it would be pretty stupid of Gigabyte to provide a bios and programs to overclock without any locks unless there was a way around that......

On Gigabytes if you press Ctrl+F1 at the same time when the bios loads it opens overclocking features, plus Gigabyte has Easy Tunes for overclocking in windows

I'm already aware of the bios settings and Easytune.... How else would I know that there weren't any locks?

Well if you were already aware of Easy tune you would know under advanced settings you can change your CPU-Memory-AGP/PCIe and PCI freq. seperate

By 'locks' I mean a bios feature that prevents the PCI bus, the AGP bus and the RAM frequencies from increasing along with the FSB......

The RAM frequencies will always increase with the FSB; the locks are only for the PCI and AGP Buses.

I don't think it works that way....

Edit: Yup, just tried..... Every time I try to overclock the CPU in linear mode, it still OC everything else.....

I'm going to see if an update helps any.....

if you wanna overclock your practical limit would be at about a FSB speed of about 220 MHz; i've not heard of anyone going above that when they dont have PCI locks in place.

Not if you set a divider for them ;)

Man, that would suck if it didnt have locks for the PCI and AGP slots. Iv actually tried OCin the AGP bus on my old ASUS just cuz i could, it didnt improve performance any and i hear that it can damage them fast, so i returned it to stock.
