3 or more monitors.. how to connect?

I have duel monitors and they are currently connected to my gfx card through VGA, and the other with a VGA to DVI dongle. So..

If i were to add a third monitor, or even a fourth... how would you do it?

would there be the need for more than one gfx card?
a special gfx card that supports 3+ monitors?
some sort of splitter
other?

You will need to run 2 or more graphics cards on the system, not SLI or Crossfire, just two independent cards. I'm currently running the x850pro (agp) and the FX5500 (PCI) for 3 total monitors.

Some workstation graphics cards support more than 2 monitors, but they wouldn't be great for gaming then. It is best just to have 2 graphics cards running at the same time.

does that increase performace?

umm a quick q if say u have a pci-e x800xt and u add a pci 5500 does game performance increase?

you need multiple video cards. I think i remember reading that xp will support up to 8 or 10 video cards per a box. I once had a client who was a day trader and I set up a system for him that had 6 video cards and 6 monitors.

First off, create your own thread. Secondly, it wouldn't, unless you are actually running a second monitor off of the FX5500 that would be running off of the X800XT if the 5500 wasn't there.

that is really confusing?????

each video card installed on your system acts as a seperate card, it does not increase perfomance. In fact it eats up bandwidth on your PCI bus. So, no, unless you have the cards linked (via SLI or Crossfire) to crunch data together there is no performance increase.

With the release of dual core GPUs coming out, I don't think SLI or Crossfire will last much longer, but who knows

I'll rephrase it :D:

If you have two monitors running off of the X800XT, then it will be slightly slower than if just one monitor was connected.

If you have two monitors, one running off of the X800XT, and the other off of the FX5500, then it would theoretically see a slight bit of improvement over both monitors running off of the X800XT. However, with adding another graphics card, and extra motherboard usage, etc, there is virtually no difference, possibly a frame per second or so (for better or worse).

ah i see, possibly. It all depends on your system, but then again so does everything else.

I would tend to agree with you though
