Should i make a new build?

Dual_Corex2

Well alot of things have been convencing me to do so. I really havent had my recent rig for very long, a few months close to a year maybe if that. But i know its far from top end. I was thinking about just upgrading the PSU and video card and calling it good. I got this cpu before the release of the Conroe so i really think i made a bad choice at the start....

Here is what im looking for for my new setup:

New case
At least a 700watt PSU
DDR2 ram (not sure on speed)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
Not sure on mobo
GeForce 8800GTX
New hard drive (at least dual 500gigs)
New LCD monitor (looking for maybe a 20 or 19 inch)
New DVD-RW drive

If anyone could recommend some stuff. As of now im not sure on much. I want to build something i can have for at least another year or 2.

The budget im working around is around $1,000.

You are not going to get all of those things in the $1000 budget. Either drop/lower some parts, or raise the budget considerably.

lol you can get all that stuff for 2000 min

EDIT: Umm, your current computer is fine, just upgrade the GPU, go for 2GB of RAM, and a better PSU and you are fine

Why not do what I did on a budget? Even mine was around $1600 and I got the following:

E6300 (overclocked to 3.13Ghz)
eVGA680i motherboard
2GB DDR2-667 (overclocked to DDR2-920)
8800GTS (overclocked to 660/1970)
320GB SATAII Hard Drive

and some other parts. And that didnt include the monitor.

I personally think your current system, for the most part, is pretty good. You could just add on a better gpu and another 1GB ram. Thats what I would do, but if you have the money to spend, go for it.

Your computer is fine. There isn't really any need to upgrade. Consider your computer will beat the vast majority of PCs in use today.

Ok thanks, so maybe ill just upgrade my PSU, GPU, and another gig of ram and call it good for the next year or so then.

no offence but a 7300 gs is not fine it won't run most of new games out already on high not to mention in two years

Im not keeping it ;)

It was originally bought when i first built this computer to be strictly a budget card, since thats all it is. My previous 6800nu was AGP so it wasnt capatible with my new mobo so i had to get a new card. I did not have that much money left over so i had to stick with this.

It can only run 1 game maxed out and that of course would be Half-Life 2 lol. All other games it can play low graphics with high res w/ AA and AF or medium graphics at lower res (no lower then 800x600) w/ AA and AF.
